Which Package is best for my event?
Which package you choose depends on your style and the style of your event. Our roving expert (roving shucker) service is our most popular and most mobile oyster service. We can walk around your party, like cocktail servers, shucking and mingling. A stationary raw bar is still interactive and more of a centerpiece for your party or cocktail hour. One shucker behind a table can serve more guests and provide a higher level of dressing and garnish.
What areas does Mister Oyster serve?
We provide mobile raw bar catering across New York City’s 5 boroughs and surrounding areas. From Westchester to the Hamptons. Please reach out if your event is outside this range; we’re happy to discuss travel.
What’s the difference between the Roving Expert and your more stationary raw bars?
Our Roving Expert service sends a shucker directly through your event, opening oysters for guests wherever they’re standing — no lines, no bottlenecks, and interactive service for everyone. Our Oyster Expert Raw Bar is a stationary, beautifully presented station that acts as a visual centerpiece for your event. Stationary raw bars allow for higher volume service, more elaborate dressings and garnish, as well as all of our additional seafood options. Many hosts combine both stationary and roving shuckers so that every guest gets reached.
What’s included in oyster catering service?
Every booking includes premium sustainably-sourced oysters, a professional expert shucker, full condiment setup (hot sauce, lemon and 3 of our signature dressings made on site), cocktail napkins and complete setup/breakdown.
How many oysters should I order per person?
For most events we recommend on average 3-4 oysters per person. Your exact count depends on event length (cocktail hour vs a 3 hour party) and whether oysters are a highlight or a supplement to other food. It’s also true that some guests may want a dozen or two to themselves, so keep us posted if you’re true oyster fiends.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes! Oysters come to us commercially in bags of 100 count (East Coast) and 120 count (West Coast). Our minimum order is one bag per event. For our Oyster Expert Raw Bars, the minimum order is 200.
Where do your oysters come from?
Our oysters come from a heavily curated list of farmers and suppliers that Mister Oyster knows and trusts. Having worked in the seafood industry for a decade and a half, he has found excellent oyster farms from Mexico to Canada, British Columbia to Rhode Island. That having been said, he has a soft spot for the consistency and sustainability that sourcing more locally provides. You’ll typically catch us with oysters from anywhere between Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay and Prince Edward Island (Canada).
Can I book just a shucker if I buy the oysters myself?
No! One of the things we do very well here is find great oysters and bring them properly (and safely) to your event. This involves equipment and training that most of our clients simply do not have. Oysters are not like other foods and our job starts far before we show up and start shucking.
Do you offer oyster shucking classes?
Yes — we offer hands-on oyster shucking classes for private groups, either at your location or a partner venue. Guests learn proper technique, oyster varieties, and get to eat what they shuck. Shucking classes are great for everything from a friends weekend to corporate team building activities.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking at least 2-4 weeks ahead for standard events, and 6-8 weeks or more ahead for weddings or larger events, especially during peak season (spring/summer/holidays) or if your event involves travel. If your event is sooner, it might still be possible! Please let us know your time frame when you contact us, and we’ll do everything we can to make your event happen.
How much does oyster catering cost?
Every event is different and our pricing is tailored to the details of your event. That having been said, our basic event packages start at $850 for one roving expert (oyster shucker) and 100 east coast oysters inside New York City. We have a range of setups and seafood options from there. Some other things that can effect our pricing further are peak dates, travel costs and venue specific details.
